About packet.ai
packet.ai is the developer cloud from hosted.ai. Developers rent GPUs by the hour or call open models through Token Factory, our OpenAI-compatible inference API, and pay a fraction of what they would elsewhere. Our tagline is “Waste less compute,” and we mean it literally: packet.ai runs on hosted.ai’s GPU pooling technology, which gets far more work out of every GPU than static allocation does. Same silicon, smarter economics.
Role Overview
We’re looking for someone to own product-led growth (PLG) at packet.ai, meaning everything that happens after a developer signs up for packet.ai: the emails they get, the experience they have in the product, and the data that tells us whether any of it is working.
This isn’t an email marketing role, and it isn’t a data analyst role. You’ll design the drips, shape onboarding with product and engineering, and instrument the funnel yourself, because at packet.ai those are one job.
The emails and dashboards are the means, not the end. What you’re building is a developer journey where people reach their first API call or first running GPU fast, come back the next day, and start paying without needing to talk to anyone.
If you’d rather fix the step where 40% of sign-ups quietly drop off than send another newsletter, this role was written for you.
What You'll Own
Lifecycle & Drips
- Design and run the lifecycle programs: welcome and onboarding, activation nudges, usage triggers such as low credits, idle instances, and first tokens served, upgrade paths, new model announcements, and win-back.
- Trigger messages from product behavior, not calendar dates. A developer who launched a GPU yesterday needs a different email from one who signed up and never came back.
- Segment by what people actually do: inference API users versus GPU renters, solo builders versus teams.
- Write emails that sound like a developer wrote them, then test subject lines, timing, and content. Keep deliverability healthy, from domain authentication to list hygiene.
Product Experience & Activation
- Own the activation metric with product. Define what “activated” means for each product, map time to first value, and remove the friction in between.
- Work with product and design on the sign-up flow, console onboarding, quickstarts, empty states, and in-product prompts.
- Run experiments on sign-up, onboarding, free credits, and the pricing page, and read the results honestly, including the ones that don’t go your way.
- Spot accounts whose usage signals a bigger opportunity and hand them to sales as product-qualified leads.
Product Analytics
- Instrument the funnel with engineering: event taxonomy, tracking plan, and clean data in PostHog or a similar tool.
- Build the dashboards the team runs on: sign-up to activation to paid conversion, retention cohorts, and expansion, broken down by channel and segment.
- Run a weekly growth review covering what moved, why it moved, and what we test next.
- Tell our Digital Marketing Manager which sources bring developers who stick around, so spend follows quality rather than volume.
Requirements
- 3+ years in lifecycle, growth, or product-led growth marketing at a SaaS, developer tools, or usage-based product, including owning an activation, conversion, or retention metric.
- You’ve built automated, behavior-triggered email programs in a tool such as Customer.io, HubSpot, Braze, or Loops, and you can show what they did to the numbers.
- Hands-on with product analytics: funnels, cohorts, and retention in PostHog, Amplitude, or Mixpanel. You can write SQL to answer your own questions.
- Sound experiment design: clear hypotheses, sensible sample sizes, and honest readouts.
- Comfortable working with engineers on event tracking. You understand APIs and webhooks well enough to write a tracking spec they can build from.
- Technical enough to use packet.ai the way our users do. You know what an API key, a GPU instance, and a token are, and you’ll happily sign up and break things to find the friction.
- An understanding of usage-based pricing: pay-as-you-go, credits, and free tiers, and how each one changes behavior.
- A clear writer, in emails, in-product copy, and the docs that explain your experiments.
- Startup-ready: self-directed, fast, and happy to ship, measure, and iterate rather than write long plans.
Nice to Have
- Experience at a developer-first, AI infrastructure, or cloud company.
- You’ve built something small with an LLM API yourself.
- Product-qualified lead models and handoffs to sales.
- In-app messaging tools such as Intercom, Appcues, or Userpilot.
- Working with billing data, for example from Stripe, to tie usage to revenue.
- Worked at a Seed or Series A stage company before.
Why Join Us?
- Greenfield. You’re building packet.ai’s product-led growth engine from the ground up, not inheriting someone else’s drip sequences.
- A product with a clear story. Same models, same API, a fraction of the cost. You won’t have to invent a reason for developers to care.
- Front row on AI infrastructure. You’ll see how developers actually buy GPUs and tokens, and you’ll shape how one of the newest platforms in the market grows.
- Direct line to leadership. You work closely with the founding team, product, and engineering. Your numbers are visible to the people running the company.
- Meaningful equity at Seed-stage economics.
How to Apply
Send your resume and a short note on one lifecycle program or onboarding change you shipped: the metric before, what you changed, and the result.
